Community Home Trust Advocates for Lasting Housing Solutions at NC Housing Day 2026

Community Home Trust was proud to join nearly 200 housing advocates at NC Housing Day 2026 at the North Carolina General Assembly on Wednesday, April 29.
Hosted by the North Carolina Housing Coalition, the event brought together organizations, advocates, and community leaders to engage directly with legislators about the urgent need for sustainable housing solutions across the state.
For the first time, members of the North Carolina Community Land Trust Coalition came together to participate in this special day, helping bring greater visibility to the Community Land Trust (CLT) model as a powerful solution to the housing affordability crisis.
Throughout the day, we shared how the Community Land Trust (CLT) model offers a unique and lasting approach to affordability. Unlike traditional housing programs that often require repeated public investment, CLTs create permanent affordability. By separating the ownership of land from the home itself, CLTs ensure that each investment continues to benefit families for generations. A single home can serve multiple households over time, creating long-term stability and stronger communities.
“Our communities need housing solutions that last,” said Kimberly Sanchez, Community Home Trust’s President and CEO. “The Community Land Trust model doesn’t just create affordable homes today, it preserves affordability for future generations, making public investment work smarter, not harder.”
Our message to lawmakers was clear: housing is essential infrastructure. Just like roads, schools, and utilities, safe and affordable housing is foundational to thriving communities and a strong economy. We encouraged legislators to prioritize funding for housing initiatives and to recognize the long-term value of models like CLTs.
Participating in NC Housing Day alongside fellow advocates highlighted the growing momentum behind innovative housing solutions. We’re proud to stand alongside partners across the state in advancing solutions that last—and we’re just getting started. Together, we will continue building the momentum needed to ensure every North Carolinian has access to a stable, affordable place to call home.
