This year, Community Home Trust is celebrating two meaningful milestones: 35 years of serving our community and more than 300 permanently affordable homes that have helped local families achieve homeownership.

These milestones aren’t just numbers, they represent hundreds of people who have found stability, built equity, and created a place to call home. And we’re just getting started.

Over the next few years, CHT will expand access to affordable homeownership by adding more than 250 new shared-equity homes in communities including Homestead Gardens, South Creek, 1100 Columbia, and Coker Place. We’re also creating 96 new affordable rental apartments, helping even more neighbors find a home they can afford.

Currently, two families are under contract to purchase their CHT homes, with closings scheduled soon.

Seven more CHT homes are currently available and being matched with approved buyers, with one additional home available soon.

In the next few weeks, 8 new condominiums in the 1100 Columbia development will be added to our program (pictured). These 1- and 2- bedroom homes are an exciting opportunity to live in close proximity to UNC campus and hospital.

CHT in the Community

Last month, in recognition of National Homeownership Month, we celebrated CHT’s impact alongside our municipal partners. The towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Hillsborough each proclaimed an official CHT Day, recognizing our shared commitment to expanding affordable homeownership.

We also opened our doors for a CHT Day Community Open House on June 18, welcoming partners, homeowners, homebuyers, and supporters to celebrate our work and the community we’ve built together.

In early June, CHT staff attended the Chamber for a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro’s Annual State of the Community event, where local leaders shared insights into the growth, opportunities, and challenges shaping our region.

CHT Board Member Karen Stegman reflected on the Triangle Community Foundation’s What Matters: Housing Affordability initiative in a thoughtful blog post, highlighting the importance of expanding housing opportunities across our community.

We’re also proud to celebrate CHT Realtor Amy Slaughter, who was named a Hometown Hero by Chapelboro.com in recognition of her years of dedicated service and unwavering commitment to CHT’s mission.
