At Home With Community Home Trust

Join Us for CHT Day

You may have seen that our municipal partners, the Towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough, have each proclaimed a “CHT Day” in June. We were honored to join supporters at the May Chapel Hill Town Council meeting to receive the official proclamation recognizing June 18 as Community Home Trust Day.

This year marks two exciting milestones: 35 years of service and the creation of 300 permanently affordable homes for families in Chapel Hill and Orange County.

To celebrate, we invite you to join us on June 18 for our CHT Day Community Open House from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the Community Home Trust office (105 Conner Drive, Suite 1000).

Stop by to connect with staff, partners, homeowners, and friends of CHT as we celebrate what our community has accomplished together and look ahead to the future.

If you plan to attend, please RSVP at: communityhometrust.org/calendar/cht-day-community-open-house

We look forward to celebrating with you!

Jade Creek community rendering

In May, we celebrated another family closing on their CHT home, with one more family under contract and expected to close soon.

Six additional CHT homes are currently available and being matched with approved buyers.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to add four new permanently affordable homes in KB Home’s upcoming Jade Creek community (pictured).

CHT in the Community

Last month, we celebrated World CLT Day, recognizing the growing community land trust (CLT) movement and its role in creating permanently affordable housing, strengthening neighborhoods, and keeping land in community hands.

CHT President and CEO Kimberly Sanchez also joined local and statewide housing leaders from across North Carolina (pictured below) as Governor Josh Stein signed Executive Order No. 36, addressing the state’s severe housing shortage and rising housing costs.

CHT continues to engage in important conversations and partnerships focused on housing affordability. In May, Vice President of Strategy and Operations Daniele Berman participated in a Chamber2Chamber showcase hosted by the Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce, helping lead a bus tour highlighting affordable housing initiatives alongside staff from Habitat for Humanity of Orange County.

This week, Daniele and CHT Board Member Karen Stegman joined Triangle Community Foundation’s What Matters: Housing Affordability event, which brought together community leaders to explore practical solutions to one of our region’s most pressing challenges.

Celebrate National Homeownership Month

June is National Homeownership Month, a time to recognize the opportunities, stability, and community connections that homeownership can create. For many locals residents, owning a home can feel out of reach, but CHT is helping make that dream possible through permanently affordable homeownership opportunities.

A key factor in determining eligibility is Area Median Income (AMI), which represents the midpoint income for households in our community and is updated annually. Many CHT homeownership opportunities are available to households earning between 50% and 115% of AMI, with priority often given to those earning 80% of AMI or less.

This month, take the opportunity to learn what AMI means, explore whether you may qualify, and discover how CHT’s affordable homeownership can help you build equity, put down roots, and achieve your homeownership goals.

Not sure where your household income falls? Learn more about AMI and eligibility requirements on our website.
