UPDATE 5/15/23: How a House Becomes a CHT Home
You may remember a couple months ago when we launched a new blog series about how a house becomes a CHT home. If not, you can read the first post in the series here.
(TL;DR: Because of Chapel Hill’s inclusionary zoning policy, we have 5 brand new townhomes coming online in the Bridgepoint community soon!)
And if you read that post a couple months ago, you may be wondering what’s been going on at Bridgepoint ever since…
Our property manager, Ian Morse, stopped by the new community last week to check it out. Here’s what he saw:
These pictures aren’t just any homes in Bridgepoint; these are pictures of a unit that will soon be a CHT home!
Although there are lots of variables that can affect construction time, we currently expect the first two CHT homes to be ready for purchase later this year, probably by late summer or early fall. Both will be 3br/2.5ba townhomes, approximately 1700sf, one reserved for applicants earning 65% AMI or less and one reserved for 80% AMI or less. They will be located at lots #7 and #23 (which are unnumbered) on this map:
Now to the most important part: You may be wondering, “How can I buy one of those CHT homes?!?”
We’re so glad you asked.
All of CHT’s homes in Bridgepoint, including the first two that will become available this year, will be sold to qualified CHT applicants through CHT, NOT through the builder, KB Home. This is different from the sales process for KB Home’s market rate units.
The CHT homes will be sold the same way all our other inventory is sold: qualified applicants will be invited via a “sneak peek” list to view the homes when they are available. There will be no public showings of the homes, and only applicants who have completed the application process and have been approved will be invited for showings.
If you think you might be interested in purchasing a CHT home at Bridgepoint (or any other home in our inventory), the first step is to complete a free application for our program so you can be added to our list. This is the same applicant list as for all our homes; there is not a separate list for Bridgepoint.
