Last week, community land trust leaders from across the state who make up the North Carolina Community Land Trust Coalition gathered here in Chapel Hill for a day-long advocacy planning session. I’ve shared about this coalition that CHT is helping to launch before, so I wanted to provide an update on our work.

The Coalition is a statewide network of community land trusts united to share resources, shape housing policy, and create homes that stay affordable for generations. We envision a state where neighbors unite to make housing more attainable, fueling local economies and building more resilient communities. You can see a list of current members on our website as well as information about our strategic plan and priorities.

We spent a lot of time last week talking about our messaging and policy priorities, and as those are finalized, you will find them on our website as well. We know that an important part of the work any community land trust does is educate its stakeholders and community members about why this affordable housing model is such a uniquely valuable place to invest public dollars.

We wrapped up our day with a networking reception, inviting local leaders, funders, and supporters to meet Coalition members and learn more about their work. It was encouraging to see so many supporters of this movement in one room together, and it made me proud of how committed our local leaders right here in the Triangle are to supporting community land trust work.

This Coalition is doing important work, and I was thrilled to see that work highlighted on NC Newsline this past week, too. You can visit the Coalition’s website to learn more about our goals as we continue to grow.
