Community Home Trust delivers housing affordability to diverse populations in partnership with our communities.
Community Home Trust homeowners and renters include nurses, university employees, teachers, and others who serve our community but otherwise could not afford to live here. They live in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, close to where they work, and their children attend the best school system in the state. We currently have 332 permanently affordable homes in our inventory: 272 homeownership units and 60 rentals.
Our homeownership units remain affordable permanently because we convey an ownership interest in these properties using a 99-year ground lease. You can learn more about the community land trust model on our FAQ page. We are the primary provider responsible for implementing local governments’ inclusionary housing policies. Our rental units are located in the Winmore community in Carrboro and are also permanently affordable. On average, our homeowners earn 65% of the Area Median Income (AMI), and our renters earn between 30 and 60%.
