Value Stream Mapping

You may remember from when we shared the news earlier this year, that with all of the development that is planned for the Town in the near future, we’re expecting our inclusionary inventory to double in the next five years! This means by 2027 CHT will have nearly 500 homes and a little over 100 rental units that will be permanently affordable. That is great news for our local employees who want to become homeowners but can’t currently afford any of the homes on the private market. Doubling our inventory means that we can double the number of teachers and local government employees and childcare providers and service workers and healthcare professionals who can afford to live where they work – and in doing so, we can continue making Chapel Hill a more diverse, welcoming, inclusive place to own a home.

You may be asking yourself, what does this growth mean for the CHT Team? The CHT Team has been hard at work this summer preparing! We have been participating in extensive training to make sure our staff and internal systems are ready for our amazing community to grow. Most recently, the full CHT team participated in a day-long Value Stream Mapping retreat with the Zolor Group. Value Stream Mapping is a method for analyzing the current state and designing a future state for the series of events that take a service from the beginning of the specific process until it reaches the customer. In this retreat we focused on the user experience from finding out about Community Home Trust to when they close and are given the keys to their CHT home. This retreat was very interactive and visual.

We all know that the home buying process has many steps and is not linear at times, but here at CHT we are committed to trying to demystify the process and find the joy in the small wins alongside you! We are committed to providing exceptional service to our community and that includes updating our processes to make sure we are working as efficiently and effectively as possible. Although we do not have 500 homes currently in our inventory, we need to make sure our processes and systems are prepared for it.
